SMDU™ UI User Guide 7.39 October 2020 (Requesting an Appeal Evaluation for a Modification Denial via SMDU)

To use SMDU to evaluate a borrower’s appeal of a loan evaluated by SMDU, access the Evaluation History page, locate the transaction you want to evaluate for an Appeal, then click on the respective Appeal link under Actions. An appeal can only be made from the Appeal link.

Select the icon at the top for details of why that particular type of loan failed

Submitting an Appeal for a Modification Denial on an Existing Workout

  1. Servicer makes SMDU appeal evaluation request of the original SMDU Trial evaluation denial. If an appeal request has already been made on that transaction, SMDU UI will return a Pass message advising that the transaction has already been appealed.
  2. Servicer reports the results of appeal to the borrower.
  3. If the appeal results in an eligible modification, then the borrower enters the Trial Period Plan and begins making monthly Trial Period Plan payments.
  4. Although an appeal request can only be submitted with income (BRP) the response contains data related to all workout types in the hierarchy.
